Fødevaretilsætningsstoffer og smagsstoffer

Panelet for Fødevaretilsætningsstoffer og Smagsstoffer (FAF)* vurderer sikkerheden ved kemiske stoffer, der tilsættes til fødevarer, og forbrugernes eksponering for disse. Panelets arbejde vedrører primært stoffer, der vurderes af EFSA, før anvendelsen heraf kan godkendes i EU.

Medlemmerne af FAF-panelet er forskere fra hele Europa med ekspertise inden for:

  • Kemisk risikovurdering og sikkerhedsvurdering af fødevaretilsætningsstoffer og smagsstoffer
  • Toksikologi (for pattedyr): subkronisk eller kronisk toksicitet (studier med gentagne doser), genotoksicitet og mutagenicitet, udviklings- og reproduktionstoksicitet, karcinogenicitet, allergenicitet og immuntoksicitet
  • Toksicitetstest hos laboratoriedyr og alternative toksicitetstest
  • Stoffers toksikokinetik og toksikodynamik (absorption, distribution, metabolisme og udskillelse (ADME))
  • Kemi (organisk, uorganisk, analytisk og syntetisk kemi), navnlig hvad angår kemisk identifikation og specifikation af kemiske stoffer
  • Eksponeringsvurdering og forbrugsundersøgelser
  • Fødevareteknologi (produktionsprocesser og anvendelse af fødevaretilsætningsstoffer)

*FAF-panelet fortsætter arbejdet på de fleste af de områder, der tidligere var omfattet af det forhenværende Panel for Tilsætningsstoffer og Næringsstoffer Tilsat til Fødevarer (ANS). Desuden har FAF-panelet overtaget ansvaret for vurdering af smagsstoffer fra det forhenværende CEF-panel, samtidig med at det overdrager ansvaret for vurdering af næringsstoffer til NDA-panelet.
