Toidu lisaained ning lõhna- ja maitseained

Toidu lisaainete ning lõhna- ja maitseainete teaduskomisjon (FAF-komisjon)* hindab toidule lisatavate keemiliste ainete ohutust ja tarbijate kokkupuudet nendega. Teaduskomisjoni tegevus käsitleb peamiselt aineid, mida EFSA hindab, enne kui saab anda loa nende kasutamiseks ELis.

FAF-komisjoni liikmed on teadlased kogu Euroopast, kellel on eksperditeadmised järgmistes valdkondades:

  • toidu lisaainete ning lõhna- ja maitseainete keemiliste riskide ja ohutuse hindamine
  • toksikoloogia (imetajad): subkrooniline ja krooniline toksilisus (korduvannuse süsteemse toksilisuse uuringud), genotoksilisus ja mutageensus, arengu- ja reproduktiivtoksilisus, kantserogeensus, allergeensus ja immuuntoksilisus
  • toksilisuse uuringud katseloomadega ja alternatiivsed toksilisuse uuringud
  • toksikokineetika ja toksikodünaamika (ADME – ainete imendumine, jaotumine, metabolism ja eritumine)
  • keemia (orgaaniline, anorgaaniline, analüütiline ja sünteesikeemia), eelkõige keemiliste ainete identifitseerimine ja kirjeldamine
  • kokkupuute hindamine ja tarbimisuuringud
  • toidutehnoloogia (tootmisprotsessid ja toidu lisaainete kasutamine)

*FAF-komisjon jätkab tööd enamikus valdkondades, millega varem tegeles endine toidu lisaainete ja toidule lisatavate toitaineallikate teaduskomisjon (ANS-komisjon). Lisaks on FAF-komisjon võtnud endiselt CEF-komisjonilt (toiduga kokkupuutuvate materjalide, ensüümide, lõhna- ja maitseainete ning abiainete teaduskomisjon) üle vastutuse lõhna- ja maitseainete hindamise eest, andes samas vastutuse toitainete hindamise eest üle NDA-komisjonile (toitumise, uuendtoidu ja toiduallergeenide teaduskomisjon).
