Abstract

Lanphear and co-workers (2005) carried out an international pooled analysis from seven cohort studies to investigate the effect of low-level environmental lead exposure on children’s intellectual function. The objective of this report produced by the University of Copenhagen was to perform a benchmark dose (BMD) modelling using the raw data obtained with permission from the seven individual cohort studies summarised by Lanphear and co-workers in 2005 on the effect of lead on intellectual function in children. A benchmark response (BMR) of 1 full Intelligence Quotient (IQ) point (BMR01) was used to derive a BMD and its 95 %-confidence lower bound (BMDL) for a 1 % change on human intellectual function due to lead using available dose-effect models based on this study.
