The Remunerated External Experts (REE) framework enables EFSA to access specialised expertise whenever scientific oroperational support is required. Through two complementary schemes—ISA and OSA—external experts provide scientific, technical, operational and methodological advice across a wide range of fields.

How experts are selected and contracts awarded
- Expression of interest: Experts submit an expression of interest via an online tool in response to a call
- Evaluation Committee assessment: EFSA Evaluation Committee assesses expressions and draws up a list of selected experts
- Selection from expert list: When EFSA needs support, the most suitable expert is selected from the list
- Task-specific contract: The tasks are formalised in a contract defining the exact scope, duration and price
