Webinar on new developments in biotechnology, including SynBio and NGTs, applied to animals for food, feed and other agricultural uses
Background
EFSA received a request by the European Commission (in accordance with Article 29 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002) to provide a scientific opinion on new developments in biotechnology, including synthetic biology and new genomic techniques. It applies to animals for food, feed and other agricultural uses. The Term of References (ToRs) ask to assess the applicability and sufficiency of EFSA’s current risk assessment guidance documents. These cover all aspects of molecular characterisation, food and feed safety, animal health and welfare, and environmental safety.
Objectives of the meeting
EFSA’s Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) has endorsed a draft opinion, which is ready for online consultation with stakeholders.
This webinar aims at presenting the draft scientific opinion, introducing the driving elements and key chapters of the draft document, which is under public consultation until 19 March 2025.
In line with EFSA’s commitment to transparency and engagement with its stakeholders, and as part of the ongoing dialogue with interested parties as part of this mandate, the webinar aims at providing a clear understanding regarding the key components of and rationale behind the scientific opinion.
Who should attend?
The meeting is open to all interested stakeholders with expertise in emerging developments in biotechnology, including synthetic biology and new genomic techniques applied to animals for food, feed, and other agricultural uses. Depending on availability, the webinar will also welcome experts in related fields such as molecular characterisation, food and feed safety, animal health and welfare, and environmental safety.
