Webinar on Dioxins in food and feed
Background
EFSA organised a webinar on the draft scientific Opinion that updates its risk assessment on polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) in food and feed, which will be open for public consultation until 26 January 2026.
In 2018 EFSA published its first risk assessment on PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs in food and feed. Following the update of the toxic equivalency factors by the World Health Organisation (WHO-TEFs) published in 2024, the European Commission requested EFSA to update its 2018 risk assessment on the basis of the new WHO-TEFs. The update is now under public consultation.
Objectives of the meeting
In line with EFSA’s commitment to transparency and engagement with its stakeholders, the webinar aimed to present EFSA’s approach to the risk assessment and main conclusions of the draft scientific opinion. Please note that the scope of the meeting did not cover risk management issues. A Q&A session was held at the end of the meeting, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to clarify any questions they may have regarding the draft Opinion and its public consultation phase.
