Ad hoc stakeholder meeting on styrene

Background

An ad hoc meeting between EFSA’s experts and the subcommittee from the Dutch Health Council took place on 7 March 2025 to discuss the respective assessments of the safety of styrene. Both parts concluded that no substantial scientific divergencies exist due to the distinct scope of the assessment, regulatory frameworks or context of application, target population and exposure routes. It was jointly agreed to make the necessary clarifications in the respective documents (EFSA’s opinion and DHC report) to avoid the perception of divergencies by the Commission and the general public. EFSA's opinion will be published before the summer.
