EU Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare Olivér Várhelyi visits EFSA
On Thursday, 10 April, European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Olivér Várhelyi, visited the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in Parma.
Commissioner Várhelyi was accompanied by members of his cabinet and the head of the European Commission Representation Office in Milan. The delegation was welcomed by EFSA’s acting Executive Director, Bernhard Url, along with members of EFSA’s management team.
During the visit, the Commissioner attended several sessions that provided an overview of EFSA’s work, its strategic priorities, and the challenges ahead. Discussions covered a broad range of key topics, including the use of emerging AIThe adequate intake (AI) is a dietary recommendation used when there isn't enough data to calculate an Average Requirement. An AI is the average nutrient level consumed daily by a typical healthy population which is assumed to be adequate for the population's needs technologies, food innovation, pesticides and biocontrol agents, biotechnology, animal health and welfare, and plant health.
After this series of meetings, Commissioner Várhelyi met with EFSA staff and delivered an address, followed by a question-and-answer session.
