Pre-Accession Study Visit to Food Safety Authorities in Spain

The European Food Safety Authority organised a study visit for Candidate countries at the Spanish Food Safety Agency (AESAN) in Madrid on the 22 and 23 of March 2010. Representatives from different institutions involved in the food safety system from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Türkiye took part in the study visit.

This study visit gave the participants a good knowledge on how food safety authorities in the EU work and by that gave them possibilities to improve their own work. The two-day meeting also provided a comprehensive overview on the legal, regulatory and administrative aspects of AESAN and the National Reference Laboratory, which needs to be taken into consideration for different food safety applications in the Candidate countries at a local, regional or national level.
