Joint EFSA/WHO Side Event - "Seafood safety: Delivering the benefits of a healthy diet and reducing risks from environmental contamination"
In the context of the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health - "Protecting children’s health in a changing environment" the World Health Organisation (WHO) and EFSA are hosting a side event on food safety.
EFSA is working in a rapidly changing environment, and needs to respond to new challenges including the effects of environmental-related food safety risks. This side event will offer participants an opportunity to look at seafood safety risks such as persistent organic pollutants, methyl mercury, and algal blooms. The communication challenges they pose in terms of weighing the food safety risks versus the nutritional benefits will also be explored.
EFSA’s Management Board Chair, Ms. Diána Bánáti, will take part in the side event, together with EFSA, WHO and European Commission representatives.
Further information on the main conference is available on the WHO website.
