Webinar: EFSA Activities on Horizon Scanning for Plant Health

The webinar was organised in the frame of the International Year of Plant Health.

The aim of the webinar was to present EFSA’s horizon scanning carried out to support EU preparedness for plant health risks. Presenters illustrated the tools and tasks to retrieve information on new, emerging or recurring pests that may be of concern for EU territory.

The webinar presented:

• the scope of the Horizon Scanning activities for Plant Health – from the European Commission mandate to its practical applications for risk assessors and risk managers,
• the MEDISYS platform of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and its IT tool NewsDesk,
• the methodology implemented to monitor media and scientific literature,
• some examples of monitoring activities on media articles and scientific literature concerning findings, outbreaks, spread of emerging pests for the European Union as well as control methods, surveillance, detection, identification methods and impact of mandatory measures for pests already listed in the European Union,
• the structure and content of EFSA monthly media and scientific newsletters.

During the webinar, presenters and contributors answered participants’ questions. Additional questions and information were addressed by email after the end the webinar. All the questions and responses have been collected and will be published on this page in due course.
