Protocol published for sodium DRVs

EFSA has finalised the protocol it will use to establish dietary reference values (DRVs) for sodium. The protocol, which is available on EFSA’s Knowledge Junction platform, was completed following a public consultation.

The protocol will determine how EFSA’s experts select and use evidence in their assessment. It will be applied to the sections of the covering: the assessment of possible relationships between sodium and health outcomes; and the integration of different lines of evidence for setting DRVs.

As well as comments on the protocol, the consultation also generated valuable feedback on the draft version of the scientific opinion.

A second public consultation will be held in 2019, when the final draft of the scientific opinion is ready.
