Context:

In food safety and nutrition, the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) is the highest amount of a nutrient that most people can consume daily without risking adverse health effects. It is usually expressed in milligrams or micrograms per day.

EFSA uses ULs to guide safe nutrient intake across the population. By comparing estimated dietary intakes with ULs, EFSA can identify if people are at risk of consuming too much of a nutrient, helping authorities set safe limits for supplements, fortified foods, and overall dietary recommendations to protect public health.
