In food safety, a meta-analysis is a method that combines results from many different scientific studies to get a clearer overall picture of a risk or effect. Instead of relying on a single study, it pools data to identify patterns, trends, or the strength of an effect more reliably.
EFSA uses meta-analyses to assess risks from contaminants, additives, nutrients, or other substances in food. By combining evidence from multiple studies, EFSA can make more robust and accurate scientific conclusions, reduce uncertainty, and provide stronger advice contributing to setting safe levels, and informing regulations and public health recommendations.
