Emergency authorisations of neonicotinoid pesticides 2020-21

09:30-11:00 (CET)

Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA assessed 17 emergency authorisations granted by 11 EU Member States for the use of neonicotinoid-based insecticides on sugar beet in 2020 and 2021.

Based on the available information, EFSA concluded that all emergency authorisations were justified.

Objectives of the meeting

The meeting has two objectives:

  • Present and explain the work carried out by EFSA to assess the emergency authorisations and provide clarifications to stakeholders.
  • Collect initial feedback from stakeholders on the development of a tool that would harmonise the assessment of applications for emergency authorisations, further increasing transparency and efficiency at the same time

Structure of the meeting

In the first part of the info session a member of EFSA staff will explain the work carried out by EFSA on the neonicotinoid emergency authorisations. Further clarifications will be made during a Q&A session.

The second part of the meeting will be devoted to collecting initial input from stakeholders on whether EFSA should develop a tool that would support Member States in assessing applications for emergency authorisations.

The info session will be held online. Questions can be submitted in writing during the event. Participants are also encouraged to send questions and comments in advance, using the registration form.

Who should attend?

The meeting is open to all interested stakeholders.
