Vědecký výbor
Vědecký výbor vypracovává harmonizované metodiky posuzování rizik ve vědeckých otázkách horizontální povahy v oblastech spadajících do působnosti úřadu EFSA, v nichž ještě nejsou definovány přístupy platné pro celou EU. Zajišťuje obecnou koordinaci s cílem zajistit soudržnost vědeckých stanovisek připravovaných vědeckými komisemi úřadu EFSA. Poskytuje také strategické vědecké poradenství vedení úřadu EFSA.
Členy Vědeckého výboru jsou významní vědci z celé Evropy, kteří jsou uznávanými vědeckými odborníky s odbornou způsobilostí v oborech spadajících do působnosti úřadu EFSA, ve vyšším pracovním postavení a s předchozími zkušenostmi s prací ve vědeckých orgánech:
- Postupy posuzování rizik – posuzování rizik pro lidské zdraví, hodnocení spotřeby potravin a posouzení expozice, posouzení rizik pro životní prostředí, posouzení rizik pro zdraví zvířat, toxikologie, mikrobiologie, lidská výživa, epidemiologie, zdraví zvířat, dobré životní podmínky zvířat, humánní medicína, veterinární medicína, hygiena potravin, potravinářská technologie, chemie, biologie, biochemie, vědy o živé přírodě.
- Průřezové vědecké otázky – statistické přístupy při posuzování rizik, příprava pokynů pro posuzování bezpečnosti využívání nových technologií v oblasti potravin a krmiv, harmonizace používání výchozích předpokladů při nedostatku skutečných údajů, posuzování bezpečnosti rostlinných látek a přípravků z nich a zavádění ověřených doplňkových technik v posuzování rizik s využitím technologií s příponou „–omika“, kvantitativního vztahu mezi strukturou a aktivitou (QSAR) a matematických modelů.
Work programme
The current Scientific Committee work programme runs from 2025 to 2027. Towards the end of 2026, a consultation of EFSA panels and units will take place to gather ideas to be discussed for possible inclusion in the next work programme spanning 2027-2029. The document includes recently added topics for the development of cross-cutting guidance documents.

Networks
What are EFSA's networks?
EFSA’s networks consist of nationally appointed EU Member State organisations with expertise in the fields covered by the network. Representatives of the Commission and of other organisations (including those from outside the EU) with specific expertise may also be invited to participate in the work of EFSA Networks.
Networks are chaired by EFSA and supported by relevant EFSA units. Their aim is to facilitate scientific cooperation in the field of EFSA’s mission by:
- coordinating activities,
- exchanging information,
- developing and implementing joint projects,
- and exchanging expertise and best practices.

Emerging Risks Exchange Network
EFSA networks with Member States, EU and international agencies on exchanging data, methodologies and lessons learnt on emerging risks through its Emerging Risks Exchange Network (EREN).

Risk assessment of nanotechnologies in food and feed
The main goals are to facilitate harmonisation of assessment practices and methodologies, enhance exchange of information and data between EFSA and Member States, and achieve synergies in risk assessment activities.
