intragenesis
An approach that modifies the genetic material of an organism with a combination of different sequences from a donor that belongs to the same species or one closely related
Intragenesis is a type of genetic modification where a plant’s own genes, or genes from closely related plants, are rearranged or combined to create a new trait, without introducing genes from unrelated species.
EFSA assesses intragenesis by evaluating whether the modified plants are safe to eat, safe for the environment, and free from unintended harmful effects. They review data on potential toxicity, allergenicity, and environmental impact, providing scientific advice to help the European Commission and Member States decide on approval and regulation of intragenic plants.
