bee brood
A collective name for the offspring of bees from a single hatch
EFSA studies bee brood to assess the impacts of pesticides, pathogens, and other stressors on bee development and colony survival. By monitoring brood health, EFSA can evaluate risks to pollinators, which are vital for crop production and ecosystem services, and provide scientific advice to protect bees and ensure sustainable agriculture.
Key initiatives include developing a revised guidance for assessing risks from pesticides to honeybees, bumble bees, and solitary bees, implementing advanced methods like the MUST-B project, and establishing the EU Pollinator Hub for sharing harmonized data on bee health. These efforts aim to ensure a higher level of consumer and environmental protection within the EU.
