Webinar: tolerable upper intake levels for vitamins & essential minerals
Background
In 2021, the European Commission asked EFSA to review the evidence regarding the safety of selected vitamins and essential minerals and update existing tolerable upper intake levels (ULs). This mandate also provided an opportunity to revisit the scientific framework applied for the risk assessment of nutrients and reflect on recent methodological developments. As a result, eight scientific opinions (vitamin B6, folate, vitamin A including β-carotene, vitamin D, vitamin E, manganese, iron, and selenium) and one guidance document have been published. This extensive work was finalised in September 2024 .
Objectives of the meeting
The objective of this webinar is to share the results and conclusions of the scientific review conducted by EFSA. The event will provide stakeholders with insights on the principles and methods applied for the evaluations and will summarise the conclusions reached on each of the micronutrients that were recently evaluated.
The setting of Maximum Limits Permitted (MLP) for vitamins and minerals that may be added to foods or food supplements are outside EFSA’s remit and will not be addressed in this webinar.
To align with participants’ interests, we will also tailor the content of the webinar to address relevant questions and clarification requests submitted through the registration form by 4 November 2024.
Who should attend?
Any individual or organisation with an interest in the scientific evaluation of the safety of vitamins and essential minerals. The content of the webinar will be relevant for a broad audience, including the food industry, the nutrition research community, national authorities and other scientific risk assessment bodies.
