Ad hoc meeting with industry representatives – Joint dossiers on food enzymes produced from animal and plant sources

On 18 September 2020, staff from the EFSA FIP Unit met with the representatives from the Association of Manufacturers and Formulators of Enzyme Products (AMFEP) and the European Commission in the context of an EFSA ad hoc meeting with food and feed business representatives. The meeting provided an opportunity for an open discussion about joint dossiers on food enzymes from animal and plant sources.
The following topics were discussed:
- general principles and critical issues of risk assessment of food enzymes with focus on animal and plant sources;
- joint dossiers on food enzymes produced from plant sources (papain);
- joint dossiers on food enzymes produced from animal sources (lysozyme, rennet, triacylglycerol lipase).
The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere in open dialogue. It marks an important step to enable the risk assessment of this group of food enzyme dossiers.
