The Applications HelpDesk (APDESK) Unit was created in October 2011 as part of the recent reorganisation of EFSA, and is a horizontal unit within the Directorate for Scientific Evaluation of Regulated Products (REPRO). The mission of the newly created APDESK Unit is to act as a front office and support desk for applicants, Member States, stakeholders and other interested parties with respect to applications. The Unit serves both as a service desk for applicants, Member States and other stakeholders as well as supporting the work of the units in the REPRO Directorate by pooling together a certain number of functions and tasks, mainly of administrative, communication, technical, scientific and procedural nature.

As part of its mission, the APDESK Unit is enhancing the dialogue between the Agency, applicants and stakeholders. In this context, the APDESK Unit, in collaboration with the Food Ingredient and Packaging (FIP) unit is organising an EFSA technical meeting with applicants in order to allow exchanges of views on administrative and scientific issues related to the preparation, submission and the risk assessment of applications for flavourings.

The overall aim of this technical meeting is to review the administrative, scientific and regulatory requirements for applications related to flavourings, including other than flavouring substances.

  • Setting the scene on scientific challenges for other than flavouring substances applications;

Structure of the meeting

The technical meeting is organised in a way to provide for interactive exchange of views between EFSA experts, EFSA staff and applicants.

The technical meeting will conclude with a session on possible learning outcomes.
