EFSA's Scientific Colloquium 28 - Assessing indirect effects of pesticides in environmental risk assessment
Background
This Scientific Colloquium brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss the impact of pesticides on biodiversity through trophic interactions (indirect effects). The event focused specifically on methods for incorporating indirect effects into the regulatory environmental risk assessment (ERA) of plant protection products (PPPs), as well as on strategies to mitigate risks and reduce impacts. More broadly, it explored regulatory and research needs, along with opportunities for harmonisation across regulatory frameworks.
The colloquium also served as a platform for stakeholders to share their views and highlight their needs on this topic.
The feedback gathered during the event will support EFSA’s ongoing work to revise the terrestrial ecotoxicology guidance document. It will also contribute to greater harmonisation of ERA approaches and help identify existing knowledge gaps, regulatory limitations, and areas for future development.
