The year 2005 has certainly been eventful and demanding for the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA). Despite this,EFSA 's core business -the provision of high quality, independent scientific opinions and advice on food and feed safety -has continued unabated and even expanded. During 2005 the Scientific Committee (SC) and Panels, supported by Working Groups and EFSA staff, have produced a record number (163) of opinions covering a wide range of subjects. In addition, the Authority has produced its first Annual Zoonoses Report and several other important publications on risk assessment of food and feed.
