Guidelines on Gifts and Hospitality

The European civil service is expected to live up to the highest standards of professional ethics, and to remain independent at all times. This is why the Staff Regulations, specifically Article 11(2), provide that an official shall not accept any favour, gift or payment from sources outside of the institution without the permission of the Appointing Authority. For the purposes of the present Guidelines, the term ‘official’ shall be understood as comprising officials, temporary agents, contractual agents and special advisors.
