EFSA contributes to EU events at Shangai Expo 2010

The World Expo in Shanghai, China began on May 1st and will run until the end of October. During the Expo, EFSA will contribute to the events organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO). These events will raise awareness on key topics such as healthy cities and food safety among the European Commission's main partners in China, including high-level policymakers, national and local authorities, academics and business representatives.

EFSA’s role in risk assessment will be presented by Riitta Maijala, EFSA’s Director of Risk Assessment, at the “Securing Food Safety for a Healthy Life” and “Research for Healthy Life” conferences on 5 and 6 June. These events will respectively highlight the latest developments in EU food safety legislation and the role of research and development in enhancing food safety.

EFSA will also contribute to a Sino-European food safety cooperation forum organised by the European Commission and the Chinese authorities under the “Better training for Safer Food” programme. This special training week will familiarise participants with EU rules in order to help ease access to the EU market for their products. EFSA representatives will give lectures on the risk assessment of food additives and genetically modified food and feed.
