GMO ad hoc meeting with industry representatives

The second ad hoc meeting with industry representatives (GMO applicants) for 2022 was organized by EFSA on the 16th of November 2022. The following issues were addressed:

  1. Administrative and procedural issues: CropLife Europe (CLE) presented its experience with tools introduced after the entry into force of the Transparency Regulation. EFSA provided an overview of the Technical Group on the Tools and invited applicants to participate. A presentation of the OpenEFSA tool was also given. The FDP Unit discussed various practical aspects and shared experiences and suggestions for improvements
  2. Updates and timelines of ongoing risk assessment activities. EFSA informed applicants on timelines and progress on risk assessment and about a new contract for bioinformatic analyses. An update on the TOX studies reporting and checklists used by EFSA was given.
  3. Animal Dietary Exposure. The EFSA GMO Panel statement on Animal Dietary Exposure was discussed. A presentation on the topic was given by CLE and EFSA.
  4. Intractable proteins: EFSA and CLE discussed about challenges related with the risk assessment of intractable proteins.
  5. New genomic techniques: EFSA provided an update on the status of the mandate received by DG SANTE on the new developments in biotechnology applied to microorganisms. EFSA informed the applicants of the upcoming NGT event to be held on the 12th December 2022 and invited them to register through this link.

The next meeting is planned to take place in the first semester of 2023. EFSA thanks all participants both online and in the EFSA premises for the constructive discussions and excellent collaboration and are looking forward to meeting you again at our next meeting.
