EFSA holds workshop at Festa dell’Europa
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), in conjunction with the Italian Ministry of Health, held a workshop on food safety in Parma, Italy, on 5 May. The event, organised as part of the Festa dell’Europa (Europe Week) 2011, looked at ways of ensuring food safety and consumer protection from both a European and a national viewpoint.
The Workshop sulla Sicurezza degli Alimenti (Workshop on Food Safety) at Centro Congressi was attended by nearly 250 delegates, including Italian food health specialists, university students and representatives from local industry and institutions. There were delegations from 11 EU and non-EU countries.
Representatives from EFSA explained the organisation’s role and activities in risk assessment, the importance of the procedures it has in place to ensure its independence and the procedure for selecting and renewing its scientific Panels.
The Festa dell’Europa in Parma is a week-long programme comprising 60 events which is organised by EFSA in association with the Municipality and Province of Parma, Europass, the University of Parma and the European Commission Delegation in Milan. It marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, an important landmark in the history of the European Union.
