About the call
EFSA is launching a call for expressions of interest inviting stakeholders involved in plastic food contact material applications to join its stakeholder community on applications for food and feed products.
As part of wider European efforts to improve the interoperability and reuse of chemical data across regulatory domains and EU institutions, the European Union is promoting the use of the International Uniform Chemical Information Database (IUCLID) as the standard format for regulated product dossiers.
Within EFSA’s remit, IUCLID is already used for plant protection product applications. In line with recent developments in the EU legislative framework, the use of IUCLID will be progressively extended to additional regulatory areas. The transition will begin with plastic food contact material applications, for which the use of the IUCLID format is currently planned in the second half of 2028, allowing sufficient time for preparation, testing, learning and adaptation.
The transition will be introduced gradually and in close dialogue with applicants and stakeholders. Engagement activities will take place through the EFSA stakeholder community on applications for food and feed products, which will host dedicated consultation and feedback-gathering activities related to the adoption of IUCLID for plastic food contact material applications.
The present call therefore invites stakeholders working on plastic food contact materials to join the community and participate in these upcoming activities.
Objectives and functioning of the community
The community provides a collaborative forum for members to share their views, experiences and suggestions with EFSA and their peers, contributing to discussions and initiatives aimed at improving the application process and application quality.
In this context, a dedicated strand of activities will focus on the transition to the IUCLID format for plastic food contact material applications.

Who we are looking for
This call is addressed to all categories of stakeholders involved in plastic food contact material applications.
It is intended solely to collect expressions of interest from new members who wish to join the community. Existing members will remain part of the community and do not need to reapply.
