EFSA’s Stakeholder Consultative Platform was created in 2005, following a decision of the Authority’s Management Board. The Platform, composed of EU-wide stakeholder organisations working in areas related to the food chain, assists EFSA in the development of its overall relations and policy with stakeholders.
The Platform meets three times per year in plenary meetings and provides a forum for dialogue, exchange of ideas, information and views.
On 14th June, 2012, EFSA’s Management Board adopted the list of organisations which will make up the Stakeholder Consultative Platform once its current mandate expires on 30th June. The 24 organisations were selected after a public call for expressions of interest from organisations representing main stakeholders in such categories as: associations/NGOs representing consumers; NGOs involved in public health, plant health, animal health and welfare and environmental protection; farmers and primary processors; food industry; trade and catering.
