Science, food, society: EFSA conference 2018 – day 3
Following yesterday’s focus on advancing risk assessmentA specialised field of applied science that involves reviewing scientific data and studies in order to evaluate risks associated with certain hazards. It involves four steps: hazard identification, hazard characterisation, exposure assessment and risk characterisation science, today’s break-out sessions address equally challenging topics, such as engaging with society, managing evidence, and envisioning the expertise of the future. Also, the session on advances and challenges in human health risk assessment continues.
Topics include: the relevance of societal engagement in regulatory science and decision-making, opportunities and challenges for risk assessment vis-à-vis an exponential explosion of data, and ways to prepare for the scientific and social advances of tomorrow.
