Outcomes of the meeting
The 5th meeting of the EFSA Stakeholder Consultative Platform chaired by Sue Davies took place on 26-27 April. Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, EFSA Executive Director, informed participants about activities at EFSA since the last Platform in December 2006, while Dr Patrick Wall, Chairman of EFSA Management Board, reconfirmed the importance that the Management Board attaches to the work of the Platform.
The two-day meeting included presentations from EFSA scientific staff on future challenges for the Authority including Cloning and Nanotechnology, developing the work plans for the Working Group on Transparency in Risk Assessment and Working Group on Criteria for Public Consultation, and an open consultation on EFSA’s preliminary draft 2008 management plan.
The Terms of Reference for the two working groups were discussed and work assigned to the groups will begin immediately. Outcomes and recommendations from these groups will be discussed at the next meeting planned on October 18-19 2007. Once agreed at this meeting this information will be shared with EFSA’s Executive Director and EFSA Management Board.
Members were also invited to submit their comments on the 2008 EFSA management plan, by the end of June. These comments will be reviewed by the Authority.
Representatives of 19 member organisations and ten observers attended the meeting.
All presentations made at the meeting will be posted on this webpage shortly.
The agenda includes the kick-off meetings of the working groups on transparency in risk assessment and on criteria for public consultation, as well as information sessions on animal health and welfare, on cloning and on nanotechnology. Moreover, the platform will be consulted on EFSA's preliminary draft management plan for 2008 that was recently adopted by EFSA 's Management Board. On this occasion, the Platform will be also addressed by the Chair of the Management Board, Professor Patrick Wall. EFSA 's Executive Director Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle will update the Platform on EFSA 's activities over the last months and future activities.
