EFSA's NDA Unit has updated a briefing document describing how EFSA has followed consistent procedures for the evaluation of Article 13.1 claims, including the use of uniform scientific criteria for substantiation of claims and for the characterisation of foods. The document also takes into account discussions held at a meeting with Member States and the European Commission on October 6 2009 and additional comments received.
Research institutes, industry bodies and other parties that carry out or commission research projects on 3-MCPD esters are invited to submit information on these projects to EFSA. Further data is needed to assess the possible risks posed by these contaminants to human health. This database will serve as a platform for sharing information and will help to ensure that effective progress is made in this field. EFSA will regularly update the database with the input received.
This day, celebrated on 18 November, aims to raise awareness about the importance of appropriate use of antibiotics in order to turn the tide on antibiotic resistance. EFSA supports the development of strategies and measures to address antibiotic resistance by providing scientific advice on the risks to human and animal health of the possible emergence, spread and transfer of antimicrobial resistance to humans and animals via the food and feed chain.
