Info Session on Applications – Pesticides – Technical meeting with applicants on ‘Scientific Opinion on Preparation of a Guidance Document on Pesticide Exposure Assessment for Workers, Operators, Bystanders and Residents

On 13 September 2012 EFSA invited representatives from industry organisations for plant protection products for a Technical meeting to discuss EFSA’s “Scientific Opinion on Preparation of a Guidance Document on Pesticide Exposure Assessment for Workers, Operators, Bystanders and Residents”. The event was hosted by EFSA’s Pesticides and Application Helpdesk Units.

Representatives from ECPA, IBMA and ECCA met with EFSA staff and a member of EFSA’s working group affiliated to the Authority’s Scientific Panel on Plant Protection Products and their Residues (PPR). The Draft Scientific Opinion was open for public consultation from 19/8/2009 till 15/9/2009 and EFSA Guidance on “the pesticides exposure assessment for workers, operators, bystanders and residents” is expected to be finalised by the end of December 2012.

The aim of the meeting was to have an open discussion on the main issues raised by industry during public consultation of the Draft Scientific Opinion.

In an open dialogue, industry and EFSA discussed the methodologies and parameter values in the Draft Scientific Opinion which allowed each party to outline their views on the subject. This resulted in a better understanding of the document and the way it was created. The meeting was perceived as being very fruitful by both parties and is part of Application Helpdesk mission to have regular interaction with EFSA’s stakeholders.
