EFSA and food safety in the EU: achievements and challenges - 7 June 2007 - Istituto Superiore di Sanità

On the occasion of EFSA’s Five Year Anniversary, a Scientific Conference is aimed at reviewing the contribution EFSA has made so far to Food Safety in Europe and at providing advice on future challenges that EFSA has to meet to accomplish its mission.

Three Round Table discussions will take place following interventions from the Italian Minister of Health, Sen. Livia Turco, the EFSA’s Executive Director, Dr. Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, the Chair of EFSA’s Management Board, Prof. Patrick Wall, and a European Commission representative.

During the Round Table on “Harmonisation and transparency in risk assessment”, following an introduction by Dr. Koëter, EFSA’s Deputy Executive Director, three high profile scientists will identify the key results achieved so far and the main directions of future activities .

For the Round Table on “Communicating risks and benefits: a strategy for Europe”, following an introduction by Dr. Gassin, EFSA’s Director of Communication, three well known journalists and a representative of the Italian Superior Council of Health will share their viewpoints. A general discussion will follow.
