Abstract

The EFSA Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF) has endorsed its draft Scientific Opinion on the risks to public health related to the presence of bisphenol A (BPA) in foodstuffs in two stages. The opinion has undergone two separate public consultations, the first one from 25 July to 15 September 2013 on the draft assessment of human exposure to BPA via dietary and non dietary sources, while the second from 17 January to 13 March 2014 on the draft assessment of BPA toxicology and human health risks. Overall EFSA has received about five hundred comments from various interested parties including national agencies, non-governmental organisations, industry, academia and individuals. This report summarises the outcome of the public consultation, lists and provides a brief summary of the comments received and how they were taken into account when finalising the scientific opinion for adoption.
