Meta data

Competing interests: One member of the Panel, D. Wölfle declared an interest as he prepared the evaluation report of the substance under contract of his Institute BfR with EFSA. This was considered as a conflict of interest because he could not act at the same time as a representative of the contractor and a member of the Panel with voting rights. He was allowed to stay in the room to answer questions specifically addressed to him but did not participate in the discussion of the opinion.

Abstract

This scientific opinion of EFSA deals with the risk assessment of the substance phosphorous acid, mixed 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylpropyl)phenyl and 4-(1,1-dimethylpropyl)phenyl triesters, CAS No. 939402-02-5, REF. No. 74050, FCM substance No. 974 for which the CEF Panel concluded that there is no safety concern for the consumer if the migration of the substance (expressed as the sum of phosphite and phosphate form of the substance and the hydrolysis product 4-t-amylphenol) does not exceed 5 mg/kg food. The migration of the hydrolysis product 2,4-di-t-amylphenol should not exceed 0.05 mg/kg food.
