Lumpy skin disease: strengthening regional prevention and control
Brussels, 11-12 May 2016
EFSA and the European Commission jointly organised a workshop to strengthen the regional cooperation in south-eastern Europe and the Middle East for the prevention and control of lumpy skin disease (LSD). LSD is an infectious disease of cattle that causes the outbreak of knotty lumps on the infected animal’s skin.
Workshop participants reviewed the latest available information on the spread of LSD and discussed ways to increase awareness about its impact on animal health. They also discussed how to work together to improve surveillance, prevention and control.
Representatives from EU Member States, enlargement and neighbourhood countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo1, Lebanon, Montenegro, Romania, the Russian Federation, Serbia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Türkiye), the European Commission, the Mediterranean Animal Health Network (REMESA), the Belgium Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre (CODA-CERVA), FAO and EFSA attended the workshop. The initiative was funded by EFSA’s Pre-Accession Programme 2015-2017.
