Reasoned opinion on the modification of the existing MRLs for fludioxonil in cucurbits inedible peel and radishes

Abstract

In accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, France herewith referred to as the evaluating Member State (EMS-FR), received an application from the company Syngenta AGRO S.A.S to modify the existing MRL for the active substance fludioxonil in cucurbits inedible peel; a second application from the company LTO Groeiservice to modify the existing MRL for the active substance fludioxonil in radishes was submitted to the Netherlands (EMS-NL). In order to accommodate for the intended uses of fludioxonil in the EU, the EMSs proposed to raise the existing MRLs from the limit of quantification of 0.05* mg/kg to 0.3 mg/kg for cucurbits inedible peel and to 0.1 mg/kg for radish. The EMS-FR and EMS-NL drafted two evaluation reports in accordance with Article 8 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, which were submitted to the European Commission and forwarded to EFSA. According to EFSA the data are sufficient to derive MRL proposals of 0.3 mg/kg for cucurbits inedible peel and of 0.1 mg/kg for radishes. Adequate analytical enforcement methods are available to control the residues of fludioxonil in cucurbits and radishes at the validated LOQ of 0.01 mg/kg. Based on the risk assessment results, EFSA concludes that the proposed use of fludioxonil on cucurbits inedible peel and radishes will not result in a consumer exposure exceeding the toxicological reference value and therefore, is unlikely to pose a consumer health risk.
