Ad hoc meeting with interested food business representatives on “EFSA’s Article 8(4) Opinion related to hydroxyanthracene derivatives (HAD)”
Background
On 10 October 2024, EFSA held an online ad-hoc meeting with interested food business representatives on “EFSA’s Scientific Opinion on additional scientific data related to the safety of preparations of Rheum palmatum L., Rheum officinale Baill. and their hybrids, Rhamnus purshiana DC., Rhamnus frangula L. and Cassia senna L., submitted pursuant to Article 8(4) of Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006” (hereafter Article 8(4) opinion related to HAD). The opinion was published in March 2024.
In line with its commitment to engaging with its stakeholders and improving understanding of its work, EFSA invited to attend the meeting both those organisations that submitted data during the scrutiny period or the public consultation, as well as the umbrella organisations that are part of EFSA's registered stakeholder scheme and operate in relevant sectors. About 33 participants, representing 22 organizations of interested food business operators, attended the meeting.
During the meeting, EFSA scientific officers delivered a presentation that explained and clarified the mandate, data considered, the methodological aspects, scientific requirements, and approach applied in EFSA’s Article 8(4) opinion related to HAD. The presentation content was shaped by the clarification needs and questions submitted by interested participants ahead of the meeting. Additional follow-up clarifications were provided to participants during the Q&A discussions.
