Outbreak of Zika virus disease

The Zika virusepidemic continues to spread in the Americas. On 1 February 2016, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak to be a public health emergency of international concern.

EFSA and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, provide scientific advice to risk managers on the health-related aspects of vector-borne diseases. They collect data on the distribution of mosquito species that can transmit diseases to animals and humans, such as Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, which are the vectors of Zika virus.
