Ad hoc technical meeting with stakeholders: Safety and Efficacy of feed additives
Background
EFSA held the “Ad hoc technical meeting with stakeholders: Safety and Efficacy of feed additives” on 16 October 2025 in Brussels.
This technical meeting aimed at setting up a direct communication and an open dialogue between scientific risk assessors and applicants on the scientific requirements for the risk assessment of feed additives.
Representatives from industry organisations and experts of the Working Group on Animal Nutrition of the FEEDAP Panel participated to the event.
The meeting focused on two key points:
Efficacy trials for silage additives.
The Working Group members explained the limitations and gaps most commonly identified in the in vitro data submitted to support the efficacy for silage additives. Some potential solutions were proposed to improve the clarity of the data submitted by applicants and to minimise the requests for information by EFSA, streamlining the assessment process. The industry representatives gave feedback about the proposed solutions and provided direct input about challenges faced in conducting and reporting the efficacy trials of silage additives.- Guidance on the assessment of the safety of feed additives for the target species.
The Guidance was adopted in 2017. In view of its potential update, a discussion took place with the aim of identifying the main aspects to review. The floor was given to industry representatives to comment on aspects of the Guidance that might be unclear, those that have worked well, and potential new fields to explore or that deserve to be developed further.
