The EFSA Journal is the dedicated home for all scientific outputs of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) carrying more than 3 200 scientific outputs including almost 2 300 scientific opinions by EFSA’s Scientific Committee or one of its ten Scientific Panels. The EFSA Journal is by far the most visited page of EFSA’s website. With over 11 000 entries, the Journal is widely referenced in leading bibliographic databases relevant to EFSA’s work, such as CAB Abstracts, Food Science and Technology Abstracts (FSTA), SciFinder, DTU libraries and others. New tools and features have been developed in 2012 to improve its functionality and to address requests from readers and bibliographic databases. For example errata can be announced in the table of contents of the month they were spotted and XML-data of EFSA scientific outputs can be created and disseminated semi-automatically. Subscriptions to the table of contents increased to over 8 000. A new section dedicated to special issues has been developed and implemented; the first special issue of a series was published on EFSA’s achievements of the past ten years in the context of the Authority’s 10th anniversary. In 2012, emphasis was given to quality aspects – both regarding content and publication standards; efforts to maintain and even improve quality will continue to be in focus in future.
