Dr Herzog studied Veterinary medicine at the Veterinary University in Vienna. He graduated in 2001 and finalized the doctoral studies in veterinary medicine in 2011.
Between 2001 and 2003 he was veterinary expert at the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture in Vienna. Until 2008, he was a member of the Cabinet of the Austrian Minister of Health.
Since 2004, he is Director of the Directorate for Consumers health and veterinary affaires covering veterinary issues, animal health, food safety and biotechnology in the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Care, Health and Consumer Protection of Austria.
In the EU context, he is the Chief Veterinary Officer of Austria since 2005. He is also the Austrian delegate to the OIE and Vice-President of the OIE - Regional Commission of Europe.
