Dr. Eleni Ioannou-Kakouri is one of the EFSA Management Board members having a background in organization representing consumers.
She is a Member of the Food Council and Food Safety Council (FSC) of Cyprus, Vice President of the Cyprus Consumers Association (CCA), Lecturer at the European University Cyprus, scientific expert of Better Training for Safer Food (BTSF) initiative and TAIEX instrument of the European Commission and Food, Health and Safety expert in BEUC’s (European Consumer Organization).
She was Chief Chemist, Head of Risk Assessment and Quality Assurance Units of the State General Laboratory of Cyprus, EFSA Focal Point and Deputy Advisory Forum member of Cyprus, member of several European Commission’s Expert Committees, EFSA Expert Groups/networks and COST actions until October 2015, when she retired from the State General Laboratory.
She has more than 30 years of experience in the official control of foodstuffs at the State General Laboratory of Cyprus in many fields of food safety and quality, surveillance, legislation, applied research, development and accreditation of analytical methods of chemical substances in food (food additives & contaminants and food contact materials), risk management and policy on food safety system in Cyprus. She has published over 60 papers, booklets and manuals on the above-mentioned fields.
Dr. Kakouri has a PhD (1978) and a Ptychion in Chemistry of The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
