Abstract

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) carried out a public consultation to receive input from the scientific community and all interested parties on a draft scientific opinion of the EFSA Panel on Animal Health and Welfare (AHAW). The draft scientific opinion included the collected information on the description and categorization of small scale farms in support of its assessment of dairy cow welfare in small scale farming systems. The consultation was carried out via the web from 10 December 2014 and it was published on-line with an invitation for submission of written comments by 13 February 2015. EFSA received comments from 12 interested parties. The current report summarises the outcome of the public consultation; it includes a summary of the comments received and how they were addressed by the AHAW Panel. Taking into account the relevant comments received, the AHAW Panel prepared an updated version of the Scientific Opinion on the assessment of dairy cow welfare in small scale farming systems. The Scientific Opinion of the AHAW Panel was adopted in May 2015 and is published in the EFSA Journal.
