Article 36 Report 2012 - Activities on the Article 36 List and networking with Article 36 organisations
Following the establishment of the Article 36 List in 2006, considerable efforts have been made by EFSA and Member States to keep the List up-to-date and functional. Over the years, all Member States have designated organisations for inclusion on the List, which contained 416 entries at the end of 2012. Since 2010 the Article 36 Database plays a pivotal role in administering and updating the Article 36 List, making it considerably easier for EFSA and Member States to access necessary information. Organisations on the List can work together in EFSA’s scientific projects by participating in grants or procurement activities. Feedback has been sought from organisations as to the factors having influenced their participation in these projects. Insight into these factors can help strengthen networking between Article 36 organisations and EFSA. To foster networking, the Article 36 List needs to remain fit for purpose, which includes having the relevant organisations on the List to support EFSA. In accordance, a more structured and coordinated review of the List has been initiated in 2012. Guidelines have been developed to foster consistency between Member States in the assessment of organisations against the formal criteria stipulated in Commission Regulation (EC) No 2230/2004, designating organisations and updating the List. Member States shall review the List for their countries by the end of September 2013.
