Abstract

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) carried out a public consultation to receive input from the scientific community and all interested parties on the Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids Panel(CEP Panel)'sdraft scientific opinion'Update of the risk assessment of di‐butylphthalate (DBP), butyl‐benzyl‐phthalate (BBP), bis(2‐ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), di‐isononylphthalate (DINP) and di‐isodecylphthalate (DIDP) for use in food contact materials’.The draft scientific opinion was developed by the CEP Panel's Working Group on Phthalates and endorsed by the CEP Panel for public consultation on 6 February 2019 during its 5th plenary meeting. The written public consultation for this document was open from 21 February to 14 April 2019. During this period, EFSA received responses from 26 interested parties belonging to 8 different sectors (industry, industry associations, NGOs, consultancy companies, national scientific advisory bodies and individual scientists). EFSA and its CEP Panel wish to thank all the stakeholders for their contributions. This report presents the comments received and addressed after consideration by the CEP Panel Working Group on Phthalates and discussion at the CEP Plenary meeting of 21‐23 May, 6‐7 June and 17‐19 September 2019.
