EFSA consults experts on the future of plant pest risk assessment

On 6-7 December, EFSA’s Plant Health Panel is holding an open scientific debate with over 80 experts on the process of assessing the risks posed by pests that harm plants and impact on biodiversity. Discussions will include the pros and cons of different scientific approaches and the data they require, the scientific basis for assessing economic consequences of the entry and spread of plant pests in the EU, and possible joint efforts with Member States, third countries and international organisations to further develop harmonised approaches. Among the sessions, scientists will consider whether climate change and global trade are influencing the potential for new pests to enter and spread in the EU. A full report will be published summarising the outcomes of this 10th meeting in EFSA’s scientific colloquium series.
