Are you an expert in chemistry, epidemiology or human/animal toxicology? Do you have the skills and experience to help EFSA assess risks from chemical contaminants in the food chain such as microplastics in seafood or acrylamide in food? Would you like to put your expertise at the service of hundreds of millions of European consumers? Then you should consider applying as an expert for EFSA’s Scientific Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM).
What does the CONTAM Panel do?
The CONTAM Panel provides scientific advice on contaminants in the food chain and undesirable substances such as natural toxicants, mycotoxins and residues of unauthorised substances. Its members are scientists from across Europe with expertise in chemistry, toxicology, exposure assessment, epidemiology and statistics. See the Panel’s page for more details. And here’s Helle Knutsen, the current Chair of the CONTAM Panel, shedding some light on the work of the panel and the expertise needed:
To find out more, check out our dedicated topics on contaminants in food and feed. Recent work includes the safety assessment of process contaminants in vegetable oils, acrylamide in food and microplastics in seafood.
