Food-safety scientists wanted. Join EFSA's scientific panels

Are you a scientist with experience of food safety-related issues? Do you want to find solutions to food and feed safety challenges with scientists from other disciplines? Help the EU to protect the health and well-being of European consumers, animals and the environment!

Save the date – on 1 June 2017, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will open registration to experts to join its ten Scientific Panels and its Scientific Committee. If you want to be an EFSA scientific expert, you can already start your application by creating or updating your general profile (see below for details).

What do EFSA Panel members do?

EFSA is an independent science-driven organisation working in the interest of European consumers, animals and the environment. Our motto is “Trusted science for safe food” and the knowledge, experience and decision-making of over 200 scientific experts are at the heart of our work. Their dedication makes it possible for EFSA to carry out its important mission. Our scientific experts are at home in many fields: from toxicology, chemistry, microbiology, zoology, epidemiology and plant sciences to human medicine, veterinary medicine, nutrition and ecology.

Who can be an EFSA expert?

Experienced and independent scientists with the following basic requirements: a university degree and minimum seven years of professional experience in a food-safety related scientific area.

What are the benefits?

As a scientist you will be part of an international and interdisciplinary team contributing to food safety for millions of Europeans. Through EFSA’s active international cooperation efforts your work will have global relevance. Working at EFSA puts you at a scientific hub in Europe and provides access to European and international scientific networks.

What do you need to do?

Every three years EFSA’s ten Scientific Panels and its Scientific Committee renew their membership. The next renewal is in July 2018. The application procedure officially starts this year on 1 June and ends on 8 September 2017. But you can already register now and start filling out your general profile. This will make it easier to prepare and submit your application once registration opens on 1 June.

  • As a first step, create or update your general profile here (click on ‘Go to Profile’ in the box ‘My Profile’ on the right-hand side)
  • Sign up for job alerts on the same page to receive notifications when job opportunities arise. For the panel renewal you need to mark the area ‘Life science’ in the category ‘Interests’.

Please note that you still need to submit an application between 1 June and 8 September to be considered as a candidate. Registration of your general profile will not substitute a properly submitted application.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to increase the impact of your scientific work and develop your career.
